When life gives you lemons, make a garland! This happy fruit decoration will brighten up any space, and it’s easy to make.
This is a great project if you are learning to sew. Craft felt costs pennies, so it is perfect for practicing. Kids can make them too.
A free lemon template is included to cut out the shapes. Use it to get creative with your garland. How about using green felt to make lemons? Or orange for oranges? Mix and match to make a whole citrus garland!

Let’s get started!
You will need sheets of craft felt, scissors, glue and a sewing machine for this project. All supplies are linked on Amazon below for your convenience.
Step 1 – Download Template
Begin by downloading the free template and printing it on your home computer.
Step 2 – Cut Felt
Cut out the paper shapes. Then trace them onto your felt colors of choice, and cut them out.
The number of shapes will depend on how long you would like your finished garland. Twenty is a good number to string across a window frame, for example.
Step 3 – Assemble Lemon Slices
Arrange three triangles inside a lemon slice and glue them down with tacky glue.
Step 4 – Lay Out Garland Pieces
Lay the whole lemons and lemon slices out on a flat surface as you would like them to appear in your garland.
Then stack them on top of each other in order.
Step 5 – Sew Felt Shapes
Now move your stack of felt shapes close to your sewing machine.
Pull the top and bottom threads several inches to allow room for hanging the garland.
Then line up your felt shapes using a guide on your sewing machine plate. This can be to the left or right of the felt, but just pick one to line up the shapes in the same line.
Sew across the felt with a straight stitch.
If there is space between the shapes, continue sewing nothing or air until you reach the next shape.
Continue adding all the shapes in your stack.
When finished, pull the threads several inches again before cutting them.
You made a lemon garland!
To hang your garland, tie it up using the loose threads on either end. You can also drape it over a curtain rod or command hook. They are light enough to hang with clear tape or poster putty too.
