Christmas Tree Pencil Toppers – Easy Felt Crafts

Kids and adults both love this easy craft! Felt pencil toppers in a Christmas tree shape cost pennies to make, and there are endless ways to personalize them for gifts or yourself.

Give your pens and pencils some holiday flair with these fun felt pencil toppers. They are a wonderful project for practicing basic stitches. If you don’t like how they come out, just cut some more felt and try again. The materials are inexpensive, so there is little risk involved. It’s a great group project for kids!

Felt Pencil Toppers Christmas Tree Supplies

Pickup these basic supplies at your local dollar store, or click on the links above to order from Amazon. Get the big pack of felt colors because you’ll want to make these in every color. There are more felt projects listed at the end of this post too!

Tutorial

First, download the free Felt Pencil Toppers Christmas Tree Template below.

Print the template using your printer, and cut out the shapes with craft scissors.

Then trace the paper patterns onto your felt colors of choice. Carefully cut out the felt shapes.

Next stack the triangle felt shapes on top of each other. Thread your needle with a coordinating color in preparation for sewing.

Now tie a knot at the open end of your thread, and draw the needle from the bottom corner of the triangles. Be sure to stitch through both felt pieces.

Sew along one side of the triangle with a running stitch. Pause at the top.

Then place the felt star shape on top of the triangles, overlapping by a centimeter. Stitch the star in place to attach.

Continue stitching down the other side of the triangle with a running stitch. When you reach the bottom, tie a knot, and trim the threads with scissors. Do not stitch across the bottom.

Now it is time to decorate your tree with colorful sequins to make it sparkle. Stitch sequins onto the top triangle layer only.

Instructions

  1. Print free pattern.
  2. Cut out pattern shapes.
  3. Trace shapes onto felt.
  4. Cut out felt shapes.
  5. Thread needle.
  6. Place one triangle on top of the other.
  7. Beginning at a bottom corner, stitch up one side.
  8. Place star felt shape at tip of triangle.
  9. Sew star to hold.
  10. Stitch down the other side of triangle.
  11. Tie thread in a knot.
  12. Trim thread.
  13. Stitch or glue sequins to top triangle only.
  14. Insert pencil in bottom opening.

It is fun to experiment with different colors on these happy little trees.
